Boundary Practice to Protect Energy

A theme this week I’m noticing with myself and clients… feeling overwhelmed, taking on other people’s emotions + experiences. Feeling heavy and energetically drained.

If this resonates with you, here’s a practice to try out and notice how your mind + body + soul respond.

Settle into a comfortable shape. Maybe this is seated or lying down. Bring awareness to the natural rhythm of your breath. You don’t have to change or alter anything. Just allow yourself to slow down and notice. Stay here for as long as you’d like.

Then, when you’re ready, ask or invite (or even demand) that any energy that isn’t yours, leaves your body. Notice any images that arise with this. What does it look like to have others’ energy leave your body? What sensations do you notice in your body?

Then, ask or invite your energy to come back to you. Again, what images come to mind? Do you notice any colors or other experiences? Stay with this practice as long as you like.

You can even begin to sync the experience with your breath if you’d like. Breathing in your energy; breathing out energy that isn’t yours.

Now scan your body + notice your breath. What has shifted? What do you notice now?
