Trauma-Informed Yoga
Private Yoga
Curiosity Rising offers private, trauma-informed yoga sessions. Often, this can be a great adjunct to individual psychotherapy. Private yoga sessions are highly individualized based on a person’s intentions/goals. Sessions may include a combination of meditation, breathing exercises, and physical shapes.
Trauma-Informed Yoga is different than what may initially come to mind when you think of yoga. It is not meant to be a workout or exercise. It is about the relationship with your body.
My intention as a Trauma-Informed Yoga facilitator is to provide a safe space for individuals to cultivate an awareness of their own mind-body connections. To provide an opportunity for people to use movement as a way to come in deeper connection with themselves.
What Can I Expect from a Trauma-Informed Yoga Session?
Choice
Everything in a Trauma-Informed Yoga session is by invitation. You get to make your own choices about what to do with your body in each moment. You are encouraged to refer to your own experiences and decide what is right for you. This is an opportunity to take action-based steps on your personal choices and notice how that feels. At any time if you don’t feel like moving, you are welcome to remain in stillness.
Mindfulness
Trauma-Informed Yoga offers a space for you to develop an ability to be in the present moment and bring your awareness into the here and now. It is an opportunity to practice taking a non-judgmental stance towards yourself. It is also encouraged to let go of “right or wrong” and experiment with curiosity.
Interoception
Trauma-Informed Yoga offers a space for you to bring awareness to what is going on within the boundary of your own skin. A chance to experience physical sensations in the present moment. It is also an opportunity to let go of the need for interpretation or meaning-making and to focus primarily on the physical sensations. It is also encouraged to let go of the expectation to feel something or to change the way you feel.
