Therapy for Anxiety
Are you looking for a holistic approach to treating anxiety?
Identifying triggers + learning new ways of coping and managing stress is just one part of working with anxiety. Another part, that is just as important, is getting curious about why anxiety is showing up in the first place. This approach is trauma-informed, compassionate, and validating. It allows you to make space for the emotions underneath the anxiety. To understand a bit more about how anxiety might be trying to protect you (as confusing as that may seem).
This approach to working with anxiety is twofold…
1. Skills + Tools to Manage Anxiety when it Shows Up
Experiencing anxiety and panic can be really scary! Anxiety can be overwhelming and all-consuming. It can prevent you from living your life the way you want to. Tools to help manage your anxiety as it shows up are really important! Coping skills that help you regulate your nervous system are critical. This part of the work will help you to understand more about your own nervous system and thing that can cause it to become overwhelmed. Experimenting with new coping skills will be important because there is no one size fits all or one magical coping skill that works for everyone. There is a process of trying out different tools to see what helps you most. It’s about creating a toolbox full of ways to cope + manage stress and anxiety. Your toolbox will be unique to you!
2. Get Curious About What is Underneath
Have you ever asked yourself, “when was the first time I remember feeling this way?” It can be helpful to have a safe place to get curious about when, how, and why your anxiety might be showing up. To dig a little deeper beyond the symptoms of anxiety to the root cause. Maybe there has been an experience of trauma in your life and your body and brain learned that it needed to be hypervigilant to stay safe. When you are able to safely process the past experience of overwhelm and pain, you brain and body can integrate this new information. It can learn that it doesn’t need to utilize the symptoms of anxiety to stay safe anymore. You have new tools now!
This type of anxiety treatment can be offered via online therapy or in person.
